London 2012 Olympic and Paraympic games

Working on the Olympics in your home city, doing the things you are passionate about...GIS, Cartography, graphic design its hard to beat! Over a four year period, from supporting the development of the infrastructure to support the Games, to the running of the competition events we had a very wide range of responsibilities.

We provided leadership for the spatial data strategy, design standards and mapping product creation for LOCOG and its delivery partners. Taking an integrated approach to GIS, CAD and graphic design for public communications, internal operational plans and client group publications for all functional areas within the Organising Committee.

Kraków bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics

Kraków 2022 was a bid by the Polish Olympic Committee to hold the 2022 Winter Olympics in Kraków. We created overview, cluster level and venue level transport maps to support the bid.

Unfortunately, on 25 May 2014, the inhabitants of Kraków voted to withdraw the bid in a binding referendum. At least we contributed to a part of history I suppose.

Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022

Our engagement for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 was a testament to our expertise as cartography professionals. Entrusted with the crucial task of providing comprehensive maps for both technical officials and athletes, our team meticulously mapped out all the venues involved in the Games. Our focus extended beyond conventional mapping; we identified key Points of Interest (POIs), access points, pick-up and drop-off areas, and functional zones within each venue. This intricate detailing facilitated seamless navigation for athletes, officials, and event staff, ensuring the efficient flow of activities throughout the Games. Our commitment to precision and functionality played a vital role in enhancing the overall experience for participants and contributing to the success of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

  • A cartographer is a professional who specializes in the creation, design, and production of maps. Cartographers use a combination of scientific, artistic, and technical skills to represent geographic information accurately and effectively. They may work in various fields such as geography, geology, urban planning, and environmental science, contributing to the development of maps for navigation, spatial analysis, and decision-making. The role of a cartographer involves selecting appropriate symbols, scales, and projections to convey spatial information in a way that is clear, informative, and tailored to the intended audience.

  • Cartographers grapple with multifaceted challenges in their work, navigating a delicate balance between precision and simplicity. Obtaining accurate and current data poses an ongoing challenge, as does the selection of appropriate map projections that minimize distortion. The dynamic landscape of technological advancements demands constant adaptation to new tools and methodologies, while the art of map design requires a keen understanding of aesthetics and functionality. Collaborating with experts from diverse fields adds complexity, necessitating effective communication to meet the varied needs of stakeholders. Ethical considerations in map representation, coupled with the ongoing changes in landscapes due to factors like rapid urbanization and globalization, further contribute to the intricacies faced by cartographers. Despite these challenges, their role remains pivotal in providing reliable and informative spatial information for diverse applications.

  • A major event is typically characterized by its significant impact, widespread attention, and importance within a specific context. In various domains, the definition of a major event can vary, but it generally refers to an occurrence or happening that has notable consequences, influence, or scale.
